So here goes....We brought home Wren age 13 and Lilly in July of 2014. I was so fortunate that our daughters Morgan and Vicky both traveled with me. Also my travel companions were a long time friend Andrea and my niece Brandi. It was a tiring trip but as always we had a good time seeing different areas of China, visiting with Morgan's Foster family, the Andrea and the girls spending a day at an orphanage, We were thankful to arrive home following the three rules our family has while in China, that it is about the adopted child, to stay healthy and hopefully get to see some of China.<br />
Since getting home our household has changed but only in the amount of plates at the table, and saying a few more prayers while the girls all adjusted to a larger family. Currently we have Morgan 18, attending Blackhawk for adult education and hopes to teach English in China, Penny 18 as a Jr in high school (she plans on being in Fashion), Vicky 16 as a sophomore in H.S(she plans on being in Fashion)., Judy 16 wanting to be a math teacher, Kim 15 as a freshman in H.S.(she hopes to be a flower grower), Gracie 14 as an 8th grader in Jr. H.(she has mentioned being in the travel industry), then we have Wren 13 who is home schooled, Addie right at 13 and is in 7th grade, Lilly right at 13 and in 6th grade (she plans on going to Harvard) and Kate 12 and in 6th grade (she plans on being in Science). Claude still works at the local elementary school and his work schedule works well with the girls getting out of school. I still go to work everyday after cooking breakfast for the girls, Claude is in charge of supper time. The rest of this post will be in photos to give you a glimpse of our lives over the last year.<br />

I beg that you don't loose interest! We have a story to tell and all of us hope that it changes your life! Whether you choose to adopt, to advocate or just pray for all of the people young and old in this world that need food, a roof over their heads, families.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi807xY8OegQq4rPuIMq6DC7Q49W9qMqVbRvfpFtdPZ1L1fmXVXRmqgAZMy0cBd7n7nMqhv6NSph7GxqwKap38wzbqRHK7Qe9RpIVgF-04veHGT3LVKgRCjGjiciOwZfBjlAarO_6_qH8c/s1600/Bao+Song+Qi+PIC.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi807xY8OegQq4rPuIMq6DC7Q49W9qMqVbRvfpFtdPZ1L1fmXVXRmqgAZMy0cBd7n7nMqhv6NSph7GxqwKap38wzbqRHK7Qe9RpIVgF-04veHGT3LVKgRCjGjiciOwZfBjlAarO_6_qH8c/s320/Bao+Song+Qi+PIC.2.jpg" width="213" /></a> We spent a very busy summer. All the girls, except Kate, attended Miracle Camp in MI and came away powered with His word. It was hard! This is the first time ever that Claude and I have let any of our 12 children attend a camp. The girls did great...me? I think I did ok...in July all the girls, Claude, and I drove to South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore, Bear Country, did a LOT of driving, dropped down to spend a week in Denver visiting our son Kris and his family. While there the other event was the girls attending Adopteen. This is a camp where there were about 110 adopted teens, both boys and girls, from China. They connected both socially and by sharing their lives. We know long term friends were made. Then the balance of the summer was spend in home school, relaxing, and a few projects. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidU2rbnnqd56vb6TsDjCWP1qw478Lze5T1qvAgN37rzyxWG8lub3GnJt3NQaz-A-4N-Uyq3cb2FiNPR5IKpROUrYpt57iyvJq6xiqM_UY3ArNfP6LUwhFrN23PQB5i4wh_8CGuI_EFzkM/s1600/Bao+Song+Qi+PIC.1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidU2rbnnqd56vb6TsDjCWP1qw478Lze5T1qvAgN37rzyxWG8lub3GnJt3NQaz-A-4N-Uyq3cb2FiNPR5IKpROUrYpt57iyvJq6xiqM_UY3ArNfP6LUwhFrN23PQB5i4wh_8CGuI_EFzkM/s200/Bao+Song+Qi+PIC.1.jpg" width="133" /></a></div>
And now, we introduce Lilly. The adoption agency that we use, Madison Adoption Associates, all agreed that this little girl is a "Coats" girl. My initial response (Besides Oh my this is MY daughter) was Hmmm, there are no princess's in our house. They immediately explained that the group that took the pictures try to take away the stress of all of the paperwork and questions asked, etc and do a Makeover of sorts...a fun time. And Lilly had chose to be a princess. Lilly will be 12 March 3rd. We are going to keep her name of Lilly. For the first time ever we were able to witness our child being told they have a family. It was wrenching to not be able to be there and console her and hug her. She at first could not seem to take it all in. The photo album of family pictures and them explaining about us. Then she put her hand up to her eyes and was crying. Overcome with gladness. What a moment to always have in our hearts!<br />
<br />
Last year at this time Claude and I started the process to see if we could adopt a young lady that is two of our daughters best friend. I explain it that basically they were triplets. I bought a sparkly tote bag and hung it on my door in anticipation of taking it to China to give her with some goodies in it and to use on her return trip home with me. We called her Taylor. She has a presence in our home, in my office with a photo on the wall, in our hearts and heads. We were told this summer that it was not looking good in regards to getting her paperwork submitted to the adoption offices in China. We waited...and waited...checked in occasionally. I knew in my head that it wasn't going to happen. That something was stalling the file being submitted. Several months ago we were told (I do not envy the job that Diana had in telling us) that it was not going to be possible to adopt Taylor. That she aged out. Claude and I both had very heavy hearts. And still do. We also had to explain this to the two girls first, then tell the rest of the girls. Behind closed door we told this to the two girls...I hope to never deliver such devastating news again to anyone. <br />
Then Claude and I had to make a decision of do we use the Homestudy approval for two daughters or just stay with bringing home Lilly. We made the decision to seek a second daughter to bring home...all the while still with heavy hearts of not being able to bring Taylor. A lady approached me and said she didn't want to bother me but she thought of our family for a child she was advocating for. She shared her picture with me and when I opened the photo I was with tears. That Red Thread connection:<br />
<i>"An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of
time, place, or circumstances. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never
break." -</i><span style="text-align: right;"> <i>Ancient Chinese
Proverb </i></span><br />
<i></i><br />

</i><br />
<span style="text-align: right;"><em></em></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This is the child that made me weep. Why? She is a daughter that we have not yet held, comforted, that has not been with us yet to know about our family. This child spent the time that the volunteers were at her SWI in TELLING them that everychild wants a family but that SHE NEEDS A FAMILY. This child repeatidly pulled the volunteers to the bulliton board of family photos of adopted children that she has seen over the years and pointed to the pictures and said will YOU find MY family? The volunteers promised her they would try. The volunteers did try! And they did find her forever family. She also is a Coats girl. Our son Kris will have to teach two more sisters the chant about We are the Coats girls, Mighty Mighty Coats girls....meet our daughter Wren. <br />
<br />
We have said so many times, this is the last adoption. We are saying it again. The van is full as it seats 12. The bedrooms are full. We told the people in Chicago when we were fingerprinted that if they see us again holding papers to be fingerprinted again to tell us NO. <br />

I know, it has been forever since this blog has been updated. So to start where we left off is impossible so let's just start here. This is Vicky and Judy, both age 14. Best friends, forever sisters. Who are they talking to? Their best friend who is still in the orphanage in China. It kills us that she is still there, and why? Only because her paperwork has not been created and sent in to be put up for adoption. At least for now the girls can keep in touch with her on QQ (basically a Chinese Face Book) In the mean time she grows up without a family, sad, sad, sad.<br />
<br />

Our Kim age 13 and here almost a year now. (on left) In this year she has grieved, we found she communicated with CSL instead of speaking. That was hard! She has been learning how to hear. That is hard! She is learning how to communicate using her voice. This is very hard! She is also learning about a family, she has been home schooled this year to get caught up and do all these things. Kim is going to be streamed into public school as well as being home schooled this coming year. She loves to fish, art is a great thing but what a surprise that she loves the violin. So Kim is taking violin lessons and piano lessons on top of all the other learning.<br />
Our Addie (on right) is 11 now and is in 6th grade. Where have the years gone? Addie is my tender heart girl, and as Penny said the other day should work for the FBI as she is our one in the house that can find anything!<br />

Our latest family photo, again with none of the sons in it (hopefully soon!) but it shows all are doing well. Still with smiles (some demanded, some willing...the usual family photo right?)<br />

This past weekend we were so fortunate to have a double rainbow land over our home. The continued rain (I adopted the attitude thankfully it isn't snow) has not allowed any landscaping to be done after last years addition onto the house. The lake has filled to the point that we have to repair the dry dam and at one point the lake had filled to the point we were worried we would lose the dam. All has held though.<br />

Our Kate. The picture pretty much sums her up. Still busy, loves the outside, prefers wearing shorts, has joy totally yet can land with both feet right in the middle of your business and pretty much take over. Kate will be entering 5th grade this year...and going on 29 :)<br />

Gracie....can I only say she is a reading machine and has such a dry sense of humor that it sets chuckles rolling out of you. Gracie will be a 7th grader this coming year and I am worried she is going to read every book published. She may have to consider becoming an author so she will have more to read.<br />

We had sweet words sent to us this past week. Our son texted saying "I am in Baltimore, very long flight" Words we have waited a year for after he left for a tour with the Air Force and was stationed in Qater. It is best to be home, and now he is. His family will be relocating over the next few weeks to Denver for their next station of duty.<br />
Another wonderful moment is our son Andy stole the heart of Heidi and her two children. And she said YES to the question of will you marry me. They plan on a 2014 wedding.<br />
Eric and Chelsea are settled in with Drew and Gabby at home. Chelsea has shown the girls eyebrow care and they were even brave enough to try waxing!<br />
Alex and Missy are enjoying the rewards of a large family, hunting and fishing and now softball season has started!<br />
We as a family are so fortunate and we pray for favor everyday. We are blessed to have Cindy, and for the summer also Carrie. That the girls are so good in school and are maturing and learning. That our health is good and that both of our jobs allow us to do for the girls. Thank you for being patient, I will try to do better in updating! Next update will have the other girls not here in pictures!<br />

Kim....well she is still struggling at different times. Not horribly, just
that she wanted some make-up that was to "white" and when i said no she took an
attitude. She even took the same attitude with Richard but hey..life can be
mom's way sometime. He told her that she can get the right color at home when we
get there. She finally got told back here at the hotel (i had Morgan translate)
that she is allowed to be mad, but she IS NOT allowed to be rude. So it stopped
pretty much.</div>

today the Dexter family made the trek
to the island and we went to church here with the chinese-english service and
then got to experience a subway ride, mcdonalds then the bus to get to their
apartment in GZ. we enjoyed their spaghetti dinner, lettuce salad topped off
with homemade bread and chocolate cookie bars! all served with iced tea and

afterwards Joy and i and kim went off to a separate room and spoke with
kim, asking if she had questions, she said she has not
ever had hearing aids, and that she has been deaf since a small child.<br />
<br />
She spent
time crying as she misses her caretaker and we talked about how she could call
her back at the hotel (she has called her and spoke to her and she did not have
tears during the call) we spoke about how when we visit china that all of our
daughters get to see the people that love them. and we talked of how Joy is our
friend and is forever hers too.<br />
<br />
kim is worried about not being able to learn
English and joy reassured her how smart she is and that she will learn fast. i
told her that judy is a wonderful sister and will help her, i felt that judy was
the last to have came and so has the most sympathy for the situation..i still
say if it was us adults going thru this adoption trial that we would still have
our heads under the pillow a year later. we told her how brave she is.i like how
she watches for kate, holding her hand and kate willing accepts it. </div>

we came back by taxi, the driver was a
safe driver and i tipped him gratefully!! morgan, kate and i walked down and got
our laundry, and some treats at the subway and back to the room. so far the tb
test looks ok, a tiny pink but i think there is a circle that it has to stay
within so we should be good. we get that checked in the am and then off to the
safaria...should be a good hot day for that!!<br />

the victory hotel on the island is nice. i just sincerely appreciate
the slower pace of the island than having stayed off the island and am glad of
the choice. morgan and penny reunited with Peter the shop owner and gave kate an
introduction to bargaining. today, saturday kim and i went to the clinic and she
passed with flying colors and good lord but she was even able to see the tiny
print at the bottom of the chart. i am not sure that i can even see that line
with my glasses on and but a few feet away. then of course the blasted vaccines.
she had to have four of them and a tb test injected under the skin on her
forearm. i hate that they have to have all of these at the same time. we are
keeping tylenol in her and letting her rest. tonight we are taking it easy here
in the room so kim can take it easy, then sunday am we meet the dexters and go
to church her on the island and then back to their apartment for Spaghetti !!!
last year it was great and i am sure it will be again. we are all looking
forward to eating it. </div>

ok so the guy doing dishes along the
street is <u>not</u> the food stand we ate at! can you imagine?? we have been
very careful eating...this time i simply did not want to miss out on some of the
fruit opportunities so this time my checked luggage contained two very sharp
hunting knives :) and so we are having dragon fruit, pears, apples, etc here in
the room along with the occasional instant noodles, mashed potato's and cereal.
(kate still has one box of fruit loops she is keeping for a bad day) and of
course the chicken feet. yuck...the lotus bloom gone to seed is something that
kim has shown us has seeds inside sort of like a grape looking thing that you
peel and eat. it really isn't to bad. you can buy those heads all around. when
we finally got to the bookstore there were displays all around. this one looks
like a ship. we bought a few books but learned a long time ago that the problem
with books is the weight adds up really fast! and luggage weight is now so
limited that it is hard to haul stuff back. </div>

photo 1 is mama g holding onto kim, i took
this picture because this lady to me has always shown such care for not only our
daughters but even other children without parents. the next is of kate...we
walked around a city block, or was it 6? and kate got very hot. so hot she
finally asked me to carry her. scary? yes...as it is not as hot as at home but
the humidity was very high...mama g dabbed several drops of a small bottle of
greenish stuff between her thumb and fingers, then on the back of her neck in
three spots...i kept the water in her and morgan gave her her battery powdered
fan. kate admitted that after the mama g drops that she started feeling better
right away. we now have 6 bottles of it as it is for headaches, getting to hot,
a cold, etc...mama g said i needed this many bottles because we have so many
girls. got kate back to hotel and put a cold towel on her feet and around her
neck and she felt better fast. mama g came in about 45 minutes to check on her
and kate showed she had performed a miracle by jumping on the bed and laughing.
morgan has been a godsend this trip. her chinese understanding is so great. yes
she stumbles over some of it but she has done so well. she actually posed for
this photo!</div>

I just love the dimples that kim has! she also showed huge interest at breakfast
with two sign language books that amy brought to us. amy feels she can develop
speech although will be nasally...kim really enjoyed amys interest in showing
her the sign language alphabet. penny got her foster sister in-law sunglasses as
her gift she had brought to her so they posed together. we are going to go to a
book store tonight, waiting until about 5 pm to go though so not so hot.
personally i am hoping for some ice cream. and get this, i have checked every
store we have went by looking for diet soda...NONE<br />

can you tell from the hunched
shoulders she was just shuddering in delight? Maddie turned five today and the
hotel sent her a cake that Bill and Amy shared with all of us! and yes it was
good! Maddie tried her hardest to get her mama Amy to stick her finger in the
cake too! i think Maddie has settled into the family like a dream and boy are
they in for a ride! She is just the cutest thing to watch and they are adjusting

i will send photos soon of mama g and her family that arrived today. this
is penny's foster mama and her son and his family. when we last saw the grandson
he was crawling and now he is five! he likes the matchbox cars we brought and
mama g said he calls me his u.s. grandma. </div>
<div>
kim, myself and kate took a ride to the police station with our guide this
afternoon as kim is over 13 so she has to sign for her passport. kate walked the
distance we had to with her sweatshirt sleeve over her nose. but she is starting
to venture a little into the chinese food. she has also started enjoying her
self a bit. </div>
<div>
kim is still doing well, admitted that she does not like to ride in the
cars and is not used to this city traffic. penny's tummy is feeling much
better. morgan really is great with mama g and seems to enjoy talking to her. i
value morgans ability to talk to her in chinese! so far we are counting down the
days to leaving changsha so we can be at gz...who cannot like gz?</div>

today we did the adoption papers and put our finger print o our names. kim
is officially ours! and we are officially hers. after doing all that i asked the
guide to explain that the swi people were leaving to go back to loudi and that
we would not see them again. that was when tears were shed. the ladies did so
well with her and they cried also...i have this rule of let's move forward to
keep moving into the future and so even though i felt i could also cry i kept
all moving forward all the time telling them thank you for having cared for our
daughter. a few bracelets and nail polish later at walmart and the tears have
dried...they will be shed many times again we all know but for now we are
good.</div>

the photo of the guy in a red t shirt, kim and another lady are of our
guide richard, and amy also a guide but both are employees of LWB and Amy has
known kim for the time that she was at the swi as she got her sponsored at the
school she attended. our family values LWB thru the years and again share that
feeling. </div>

<span _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_134179167081467">so how prepared am i not?? </span></div>
<div>
<span _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_134179167081467"></span> </div>
<div>
<span _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_134179167081467">i did
not buy anything for kim to give her when we meet. for some reason i am still
drawn back to taking her fresh flowers and i think i saw there is a flower shop
here in the hotel so i am going to follow my lead...for some reason God always
provides me witht hose thoughts and words so i do pay attention and follow.</span></div>
<div>
<span _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_134179167081467"></span> </div>
<div>
<span _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_134179167081467"> i
layer and prayed again that kim in these final hours is with an open heart and
with the mental and physical strength to go thru the adjustment time. that she
is willing to accept us, but i also prayed that the girls with me, that carrie
and i and those surrounding us are giving the strength and guidance to help
her. </span></div>
<br />
<div>
<span>last night late we met amy and bill littlefield. i think them and
claude and i would be great personal friends...sort of like four peas in a pod
it seemed. i will write more at some point about the gift that they gave myself
and eight daughters...but i will say that sea glass is a rare treasure but to
have 9 pieces all of the same blue hue, blue my favorite color is more than
awesome.</span></div>
<br />
<div>
<span>the girls are doing good. kate i will write at sometime to parents
thinking of bringing a child for a homeland tour or even just a tcip that is
possibly out of their comfort zone. i was thankful yesterday when the plane
landed in changsha that kate looked at me, with the mask held over her nose
holding a bit of my perfume smell to help her thru the smells of china, that she
was feeling so much better already as she could see the sun, that the sun was
out here. and sure enough she only has had a couple periods of stress where she
would drop onto the bed and lay down but she pulled right out of it and has been
rocking and rolling to the point that i told her and penny at midnight they had
to knock it off! </span></div>
<br />
<div>
<span>penny on sunday a.m. told me her tummy felt bad, it had the night
before too, i had marked it up to tired praying it was not food illness, etc.and
in just a few moments she had her hand across her face hiding and was crying.
where do i get the words that come after let me get the trash can if you are
going to throw up! to comfort her and to say honey are you sure you want to see
mama g or you are missing mama g? (pennys foster mama who is meeting us here in
changes ) and it was she is simply missing her and was overwhelmed in the
waiting for her. so some tylenol for the headache from tears and thankfully was
able to put away the trash can. </span></div>
<br />
<div>
<span>morgan told me that an aunt was bringing a gift for her to the
airport(oh God where would we put that along with the 25 pounds of english
walnuts and the gallon of honey they so wonderfully gave carrie and i and the
pumpkin and sunflower seeds?) and when we were at the beijing airport i was so
careful with her as i know she was searching the crowds for the aunt. as going
thru security she still did not realize that this would not happen as she was
thinking they could come to us wherever we were but when sitting at the gate she
said simply well i guess they not coming. mom do you have her card she gave us.
so i got it out and she found there is an email for her there and knows we can
email them pictures and updates now where in the past it was only by phone that
they caught up. this lady is the foster fathers sister so we will send photos,
etc. the only photos on the foster families walls were of them with morgan on
the day they were told she as going back to the swi and a photo of her when she
was either 2 or 7 i cannot remember at the moment. none of their biological
children. she was so so loved by this family. </span></div>
<br />
<div _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_134179167081468">
<span>so today we get kim...after a
year of waiting! i will update with photos as soon as we have a moment, we are
to first Skype with claude when we get back to the room and then the girls when
they wake up in their morning....</span></div>Ruthihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10693609970421018279noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1733886178901238648.post-15075653953073576552012-07-08T07:39:00.000-07:002012-07-21T05:56:06.562-07:00One More Day!!<div _yuid="yui_3_1_1_2_1341757687691163">

A lot of you know we are adopting again, others are gonna be shaking their heads saying I thought you said seven was completion? Well I think we will practise eight (daughters) is enough. Myself, Morgan, Penny, Kate and my sister Carrie leave Thursday July 7th for Changsha, Hunan Province, China to being the new Kim Coats home. Age is 13, and we pray she loves us and accepts us. Please say prayers for safe travel, good health, and cooler weather! Also include Claude and the girls that are at home as he goes into "Lock Down Mode" and orders everyone to not get sick, not get hurt, don't ask to go anywhere! My sincere thank you to our family, to Cindi and Crystal, our sons, our daughter in-laws and friends for the care you give to them at home. We will get home Thursday July 19th into Peoria about 10 p.m. While in China we will see Morgan's foster parents, Penny's foster mama and meet the caretaker of Kates, Yue Yan, that so cared for her that she named her own daughter Kate's Chinese name Jia Xin. This will be the first time that they will meet each other since 2004. Thank you for following the blog and the prayers. The photo is the last one we received of Kim. </div>Ruthihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10693609970421018279noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1733886178901238648.post-18946095219658123662011-12-16T13:25:00.000-08:002011-12-18T07:01:22.129-08:00a life (and physical) changing experiance<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwEq2NrybpHGaWKqASA4ZAoo1NB_0WAC42H2iF1qb8ZYMAjY06rUALJVrG7LUfPDzG5D1mBsC1Hw9BCiCT7k_mRqnnxiTfQANp8uz9wOlquRyYt5T5L16QsTuLL9_0kaS-LmV91163Iuk/s1600/judy+and+sarah+friend.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 221px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 166px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687481892448861538" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwEq2NrybpHGaWKqASA4ZAoo1NB_0WAC42H2iF1qb8ZYMAjY06rUALJVrG7LUfPDzG5D1mBsC1Hw9BCiCT7k_mRqnnxiTfQANp8uz9wOlquRyYt5T5L16QsTuLL9_0kaS-LmV91163Iuk/s400/judy+and+sarah+friend.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR8uA5pSyZycZdArYbgka8tY3ps_wwr8M6WSUKMJQ71-gcLiuvbOFpaL5tYnZi9tHq5A-C2aAgp8aXQmJ4bb_TA1iU49h_nah-R3vDANQuapXESiWICV71vPZLFvaYhWkK4WCM7K6oHbg/s1600/judy+surgeryt.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 124px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 166px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687481885577510882" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR8uA5pSyZycZdArYbgka8tY3ps_wwr8M6WSUKMJQ71-gcLiuvbOFpaL5tYnZi9tHq5A-C2aAgp8aXQmJ4bb_TA1iU49h_nah-R3vDANQuapXESiWICV71vPZLFvaYhWkK4WCM7K6oHbg/s400/judy+surgeryt.jpg" /></a><br />left-this was the moment Judy and Vicky, and the rest of us got to see the full extent of the 5.63 inches added to her height.</div><br /><div>right-one of Judy's friends, Sarah, she was helping get Judy in the car to come home, but through Judy's stay at the hospital she also cared and comforted her.<br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><div>the pain button was her best friend at times, the x-ray on the left is before, on the right is after. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4i_ZbwJQtNm5gJG8x_R5jaYH0sLPbiWg9UkyBraHu2sn7ZXliYD2ssCTDS6sZaHIOAIzAkGr7gPVnBNSNzBiTS3ipnnY25xVHUO7cfq0LWuSAQSwU5by_O8pdItg92xZ9DEyfpEPBQk/s1600/judys+surgery6.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687481879196993986" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4i_ZbwJQtNm5gJG8x_R5jaYH0sLPbiWg9UkyBraHu2sn7ZXliYD2ssCTDS6sZaHIOAIzAkGr7gPVnBNSNzBiTS3ipnnY25xVHUO7cfq0LWuSAQSwU5by_O8pdItg92xZ9DEyfpEPBQk/s400/judys+surgery6.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT4Xhrpb82WqGr41wOCQ_lHMWA4nTS172-hZ-urR9LhU6HKYDoVbwJX83fDRhJE3Vwq5C0VY6lbjfGaBt_DIULutaR2Rf7kmiPuLacMUe94slTPaXKCri-cF69Q7mDmkVXImtqxhyCofA/s1600/judys+surgery2.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 221px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 166px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687481879140757218" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT4Xhrpb82WqGr41wOCQ_lHMWA4nTS172-hZ-urR9LhU6HKYDoVbwJX83fDRhJE3Vwq5C0VY6lbjfGaBt_DIULutaR2Rf7kmiPuLacMUe94slTPaXKCri-cF69Q7mDmkVXImtqxhyCofA/s400/judys+surgery2.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>December 6th Claude, myself and Judy checked into the Children's Hospital in St. Louis, MO for spinal fusion surgery. We were all thankful for what was a fast start to getting changed into surgery clothes, vitals taken, medical information sharing, and a perfectly set up I.V. on the first try. Judy had to receive a massive dose of an antibiotic since she was going to have a lot of metal rods and screws put in the back plus some artificial "bone". This med can create itching, and getting very warm...thankfully Bendadryl solves the itching and cold rags helped the warm face. We called Vicky on the phone and shared prayers as Judy was getting sleepy from pre-surgery meds and then said our good byes to her at the doors to surgery. Claude and I both had tears, praying for this child who waited forever to be adopted and to come America for the best Dr. to treat her Scoliosis. And for what we knew she would be going through during recovery. The surgery started at 9 a.m. and we did not see her in recovery until about 6:30 p.m. and when we did we saw a child attached to three I.V.'s and a central line, compression socks, heart monitors, simply everything....but she opened her eyes to say to us thank you Mama, thank you Baba...oh baby thank YOU! </div><br /><div>Judy was in PICU overnight, the next morning when Dr. Linke came in to see her she opens her eyes to say Thank you, Dr. How humbling this child is in her gratefulness. She sat up on the side of the bed while yet in PICU, was moved to a regular room that afternoon, which turned out to be the same one we were in with with Gracie in 2010! </div><br /><div>On this floor Judy continued to touch everyone with her thank yous, she called the nurses girlfriend or friend, and they all were simply the best ever! We had to deal with several pleasant things, balloons and stuffed animals sent to her, wonderful care from the providers, great pain team to keep her comfortable...but some yucky things too, breathing treatments, laying flat on her back and not able to turn to throw up (imagine long hair all around her now covered in it) getting up several times a day to walk (she stayed very very strong and walked as far as they wanted to each time). </div><br /><div>Judy was released on Tuesday afternoon, a week after her surgery. The Nurses aid Sarah and I got her in the car, her and i held hands and I said just be strong and brave Judy for this 4 hour ride home. She had a wonderful smile for me. What a daunting thing to face, a four hour ride with a spinal patient...at the Alton, IL exit I let my friends Mark and Barb know that we had went past their check point and things were ok and she sent me back the message that she had placed Angels all around our car to get us home. This message stayed with me the whole ride home! Thank you Babs. </div><br /><div>We stopped in Springfield next and she got moved to the back seat to lay down and she rode the rest of the way home there. Claude opened the door here at home and looked down over her and she just giggled in delight to be home. I felt like crying in relief to be home! </div><br /><div>We are so thankful for Judy having came through this HUGE surgery safely, for Dr. Leinke and his whole team of nurses, pain management, and all for handling this child's health and care as if it were themselves being treated. We are thankful for the 6 girls at home that handled the separation of family during this time as well as they did, and for our family helping or offering to help. Thank you to Carrie and Jodi for the care, and the daunting task of taking 6 girls to get their photos taken, to Cindy and Crystal for filling in here at home besides everything else you do for us. Judy's recovery will be in stages, the first two months the critical time of healing, after that it is 6months of limited activity and then for the rest of a year she still has to be careful. right now she is to lay straight, and has to be helped sit, lay, get up, with no twisting. Even washing her hair now is a task as her back cannot get wet. Everyday will get easier we are sure...today she wanted to do Match class so now she is resting until it starts...an amazing child! And the even better parts to this story is that Judy has seen God answer her prayers and learned that He does listen to you. Plus she "grew" 5.63 inches in height. Please continue keeping her in your prayers....will be a long recovery.</div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div>Ruthihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10693609970421018279noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1733886178901238648.post-88247605277291196582011-11-24T16:36:00.000-08:002011-11-24T17:34:09.748-08:00Thanksgiving and so much to be thankful for<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLVtF8GcKkQSDupSpMdK-ExisCs2n-jG4_Tjsd_i-4GlfsIgQueZH7y-2UJSKmx1vbentLCNtSHvCemDqDBn4Dah7Xu0UWWooriTWVRSdP2QIWMBSpEnhQfWoegMtsV7gvX4JtIphJz2w/s1600/wedding+210.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 266px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5678737134430737586" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLVtF8GcKkQSDupSpMdK-ExisCs2n-jG4_Tjsd_i-4GlfsIgQueZH7y-2UJSKmx1vbentLCNtSHvCemDqDBn4Dah7Xu0UWWooriTWVRSdP2QIWMBSpEnhQfWoegMtsV7gvX4JtIphJz2w/s400/wedding+210.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div>I am not that good at this blog and editing...so the labels are not by the photos as they should be...the first one is of our son Alex who had to have part of the $ dance at Eric and Chelsea's wedding, I did not get a picture of the end "dip" but it was fabulous! They came for a early morning breakfast the day of Eric's wedding. Eric was practising his first kiss of the new Mrs. Williams...Alex was not that excited about him being the practise target.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>We seem to have been in a whirlwind lately. Claude and I made the decision to home educate the girls that are in Jr. high and High School. It was hard to understand how a child can be an A student but not be able to read close to that grade level, or how can a child be considered to be put in drivers Ed when they cannot read a sign?, and when a child asks to be moved out of an environment and you speak to them to ask more questions to understand why and to see why it became clear it was time to act on that little push/idea we had been having for the last 2 years. So 4 girls start home education this coming Monday! We are very blessed to have a great team, both Cindy and Crystal will be our educators and we will be involved as well.<br />Our son Eric married Chelsea and joined his family with hers. We now have another grand-daughter named Gabbie and who is so sweet!. The day was perfect for all and was a wonderful wedding. </div><br /><div>Judy had been scheduled for a Halo traction starting in Oct but another child was in need of the Dr much more than Judy and she was bumped out of the line-up. We met with Dr. Leinke the Wed before Thanksgiving and she is now scheduled for surgery Dec. 6th and has been blessed to be found flexible enough to skip the month in Halo traction. We are all glad of this, it would have meant long distance parenting for that whole month as she would have been in the hospital in St. Louis all of that time. Now she is expected to be in the hospital about 5-7 days and then home for recovery. The surgery is a huge surgery, correcting a 107 and a 106 degree curvature in the upper and the lower back. Please hold this child in your prayers for a easy recovery and quick healing. </div><br /><div>We have gotten our finger prints done-yes again-and are now waiting for the next document to come so we can send our dossier to China for our next daughter. We have chose the English name of Kim and yet are prepared for the fact that when we get to China she may already have an English name picked out. </div><br /><div>Claude and Andrew, Kris and a friend of ours went to Lake Weiss a few weeks ago to enjoy some days of fishing. They were all successful catching fish and having a good time. It was deer season already and Alex and I this year were joined with my grandson Drew age 10. He was so fortunate to be out and see a 8 point buck and get to bag his first deer! Of course Alex had to have him mark his forehead of the first deer a tradition he has carried on from his Uncle Andy, my brother. </div><br /><div>As we are closing in on Christmas I hope that everyone is well, and that we are home for St. Louis with our Judy healing well. We are grateful for our family and friends that will help Claude with the girls here at home while I am with Judy at the Children's Hospital in St. Louis. Thank you for the prayers for our family. </div></div></div></div></div>Ruthihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10693609970421018279noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1733886178901238648.post-9274443724336443822011-08-17T17:06:00.000-07:002011-08-17T18:01:04.640-07:00catching up<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzsc5bxpctdK9zAaux0ocxbfwf1PuH8zCJXt8-iQosAULMK4N1dD2dlrUGwpFVrQS8HqtmNz99DdnIQMRLUTxyGvNomQHuoqSSKAWiPND8oR3bl59yH_pusVUH3AHI8eg_PH2rWhGVtYU/s1600/summer+2011+454.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzsc5bxpctdK9zAaux0ocxbfwf1PuH8zCJXt8-iQosAULMK4N1dD2dlrUGwpFVrQS8HqtmNz99DdnIQMRLUTxyGvNomQHuoqSSKAWiPND8oR3bl59yH_pusVUH3AHI8eg_PH2rWhGVtYU/s400/summer+2011+454.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5641993254175659762" /></a>

<br /><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Well I see it's been awhile since I posted so here goes. School started today, all 7 girls are in school all day so that is a blessing. We spent our summer coping with a horribly hot summer, so hot that the pool usually was not even used! All of the girls attended home schooled summer school and we heard no complaints this year so all went very well! We ended the summer with a trip to Myrtle Beach by way of Lexington horse park, a boot shop advertising 10,000 pair of boots in stock!, the beach, a over night in Charlotte for Penny to visit her China foster sister, a stop a few hours from there to meet long time internet friends, then through Atlanta, GA to see a company that I work with, then thank goodness we drove straight through that Saturday and got home. <div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Our school year has started, it will be a fall of starts - our son gets married to a lovely young lady Chelsea who will bring us a cute as a bug grand-daughter Gabbie. Oct. 20th Judy will enter The Children's Hospital in St. Louis to have a halo set and we will take her that same day to The Shriners Hospital <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>where she will be a patient for a month having traction to lengthen the spine and relax the muscles to make the Scoliosis surgery easier which takes place back at the Children's Hospital on or around Nov 15th. One of us will always be with her during this time so i will use the term long distance parenting .... After the surgery she will be in the hospital for another 5-7 days and then return home to recover for a couple months before returning to school. The Dr. said we should expect her to gain almost 6 inches in height. </div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>We are also adopting again, a girl nicknamed Cloud. She is 12 and from Loudi China. We hope to have her home before summer 2012. </div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Claude and I decided to have a pond put in to the south of the house. They are here tomorrow to hopefully finish it up in about 5-7 days. This will be a great compliment to our property we feel and give us hours of enjoyment fishing for "that big one". Alex and I walked the creek last Sunday searching for great treasure, the weather was fantastic, and we enjoyed each others company talking the whole time we were wading thru about a mile. No treasures except the time we spent together. We plan on starting next time where the Spoon river and Indian Creek join about a mile farther down. </div><div>Hopefully we will have just the same sort of a wonderful day. </div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>We are asked constantly about adoption-we are going to put another tab on this blog so we can have adoption explained, and to offer advise of situations we have went through...hopefully this will help any and all that are even thinking of adoption. That will happen soon I hope. Thanks for checking in, The Coats Family<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">
